Good Morning,

As Scout Executive of the Westchester-Putnam Council and as Reservation Director of the Curtis S. Read Scout Reservation, providing the best quality camping experience is my number one priority. Our Council Board lists Outdoor Adventures as its primary goal. That is why this message is so hard. Due to Covid-19, the Curtis S. Read Scout Reservation will not be opening for Summer Camp. This is a very hard decision and I am heartbroken like I know many of you are. Camp Read is about adventure and excitement, where a young person can live the Scout Oath and Law for a week in the outdoors. But, with the health and safety of our campers in mind, and the unprecedented nature of this virus, we believe it is in everyone’s best interest that we not open camp. Although the 2020 summer camping season will be closed, the spirit and legacy of Read will live in our hearts. There will be a day when we all will come together and experience the outdoor Scouting adventure that only Curtis S. Read Scout Reservation can provide.

Starting today, we will work every day to prepare for Summer Camp 2021. We hope you will join us in that effort. In the next week, your Scout Leader will be sent a link to request your Camp Refund. Below, you will see a link to the Read Viability Fund site. As you know, Camp Read is funded by summer camp fees. We are asking that each family consider donating $100 of their Camp Fee to the Read Viability Fund. This Fund will be used to maintain and prepare the camp for 2021. For every donation over $50, we will send a Special Commemorative 2020 Summer of Covid-19 Camp Patch. We need your help to keep our camp prepared and ready for 2021. Our community will rise from the flames of this pandemic like a Phoenix – Scouting for Recovery. God Bless you, your family and the Scouting movement.
